Hi Deb,
I will definitely take pictures, and hopefully I can
figure out how to post them. I can't figure out how
to get to the place where pictures are posted, I found
it once and have not been able to find it again. So I
did not see the guy with the long dreds. Tell me what
I need to do so I can catch up!

Hello All!!!

2008-10-31 06:57:56

Hello everyone!!
I've just joined the Lock It Up group! After 2 years
of "thinking" about it, I have finally decided to go
natural - and I am excited!! The more I pray about
it, the more I am confident that this is what I should
do. I "wandered" upon the official Sisterlock website
while researching natural hair styles and care on the
net. After reading it, I knew that this is the way
for me to go! I called the home office and so far
there are only 2 consultants in my area (St. Louis,
MO) - but thank God for them!! Now, I am letting my
1.5" of new growth appear - trying to be
patient-unsuccessfully :
I've read through a few of the messages that have been
posted already. I have a couple of questions:
Are all Sisterlocks teeny-weeny, or are some more
medium sized (but not quite as big as other locs)?
Does anyone have any tips for the transition phase?
What about the scalp thing! My hair is not very
thick, but it is kinky - I think that's the only thing
I'm nervous about. OK - last one & I'll shut up... My
relaxed hair is about shoulder length - is it a hassel
to have the locs & relaxed hair at the same time, or
does the "freedom" occur right away?
Thanks everyone!
Gina B.

IRC Instructions

2008-10-29 03:31:42

I got in and opened a channel on the DALNet server. It connected really
fast! Kewl!!!
Here's the info that I placed in my software to get there:
For IRC Server: I chose DALNet
I put in my name, email address, nickname (Diamonique) and an alternate
nickname (Mustang) in case the first one is taken.
Then I clicked on the "Add" button. In here I filled in the blanks as follows:
Description: LockItUp
IRC Server: irc.dal.net
Port(s): 6667
Group: DALNet
I left the password blank, and I clicked "OK".
LockItUp then showed in the blank space underneath the server. So now,
anytime I choose DALNet as my server, LockItUp will be among my irc
choices. Once I select that, it will take me where I need to be to create
or join our chat.
One thing. The system told me that someone already had my nickname, and it
changed the name for me. I'll have to figure out how to change it
myself. I used to know this, but I don't remember.

CC's Braid Out Sisterlocks!

2008-10-28 22:27:00

Hey Y'all,
I'm about to post some recent picutes of my hair. I had a
retightening on Monday, August 27, Marilyn cornbraided my SL to the
back, about seven braids. I sat under the dryer for an hour (not
really a fan of the dryer). I left and told her I was going to wear
my hair like that for a couple of days. On Friday, August 31 I took
the braids out and fingered styled my hair.
I just absolutely LOVED this look and this by far has to be my
favorite. My SL's have definitely grown and I'm finally loving that
I have some length!
Can I say it again, only louder. . . I LOVE MY SISTERLOCKSSSSSSS!!

If you haven't gone through the Home Office Mandated
training
I don't want people to think that I asked the question because I
wanted to DO sisterlocks without getting the training. I am only
interested in what result I may expect from a 3 rather than a 4
pattern, not how to DO the pattern.

Re: another question for consultants

This is so true!!! My hair, which is soft but not really fine, was
thin, limp, and lifeless when permed!!! But you would never guess
that from seeing my SLs (see my folder).
So Sandy, just when are you becoming a consultant? You should get a
discount on your training as credit for the all the "unofficial"

Re: [LockItUp] another question for consultants

2008-10-26 10:30:30

No need to apologize, Beverly. That's what we're here for. I don't think
anyone has ever asked more questions than I did. :-)
I'll be interested in hearing the consultants' answer to this one. But
from my point of view (a happy client who has learned from others who have
been there and done that), your Sisterlocks will achieve the density and
volume that's right for you. It may look thin when it's permed..... it
definitely won't look thin when it's locked.
The consultant chooses the locking pattern and the size of the parts based
on your hair's texture and density. So don't worry.... so it will come out
right... and it will be just as beautiful as all the Sisterlocks you've
ever seen... even moreso because these locks will be *yours*. :-)
This is why there's more to Sisterlocks than just using a tool to lock the
hair. Consultants must take the training to learn how to choose the right
locking pattern and the right size of the parts for all different types of
hair.

another question for consultants

2008-10-26 08:21:14

please for give my newbie questions but i am very interested in
getting sisterlocks but my mother has her reservations, the biggest
one being that my hair is very fine (if tightly curled and my hair
won't have the volume sisterlocked that many others have and that
makes them look so beautiful. I guess my question is really two
questions, first are there ever any clients that you don't recommend
SL's for and second if there aren't what do you do for people with
fine hair?

Our Chats

I've been searching and searching, and I've come to the same conclusion as
Sigrid... IRC is our best bet for chatting with no hassles. All the free
chat rooms have some kind of hassle involved.
It will take awhile for us to get everybody on IRC, so we'll continue as is
until we get at least 4 or 5 people set up for IRC chats... hopefully by
this weekend.
For now, here's what you need to do in order to get started.
Download and install some IRC software. I use mIRC. I know there are
others, but I can't think of them offhand. You can download mIRC here:
http://www.mirc.com/get.html, but first you should print and read the
installation instructions here: http://www.mirc.com/install.html.
Once you've gotten that far, let me know, and I'll work on the rest of the
instructions so I can tell you what to do next. Once you've got it all set
up and can get into a channel (chatroom) on IRC, you're all set. There's
no more setup or hassles involved other than the initial installation and
signing on.
IRC will let us set up our own chat channel. It's very easy once you get
the software installed.

I have a wedding to go to on Saturday. I'm wearing that red dress that I
modeled back in April. I *love* that outfit!!
I need a hairdo. I have NO idea what to do with my hair. I was going to
wear a roll in the back... until I cut my hair. Now it's too short for a
roll and I'm totally clueless.
The dress has a fairly long sash that I guess I could wrap on my head
somehow, although I have no idea how I'd do it (and I'd really rather not
try).
The wedding is supposedly at 3:00. I don't get out of school until 4:00,
so I'll be rushing and will probably arrive at the church just when
everyone is leaving. Or maybe I'll just make a grand entrance at the
reception. <g
Any suggestions?

Scalp showing

2008-10-21 01:35:21

I don“t see what the big deal is about your scalp showing either. I think many
people just need to put things into perspective. All it is is having multiple
parts all over the head instead of just in front.
It can look quite pretty too, in my opinion. I“ve seen people who have made
beautiful designs just by parting their hair.

Photos of Initial Locking Session

2008-10-19 01:21:09

I make it a point to show people who are interested in Sisterlocks
photos of the locks right after the initial locking session, in
addition to the glamour shots. I thought it would be a good idea to
create a photo album of pics of our initial locking session so that
those who are interested in Sisterlocks will see what their hair may
look like in the beginning. I put in two photos of the lady whose hair
I did yesterday. I'm hoping that you all will contribute more to the
photo album. It's in the "photos" section of our group.
-Kim

Negative Term

2008-10-18 20:53:11

negative term and not part of the terminology that is used in the
Sisterlock book to describe the initial locking section. If I can help
it, words or symbols that I feel are negative I try to exclude them
from my environment.
Chavela,
I like that. I admire you for that. When I went for my first
consultation, my consultant said that in the beginning, I'd have some
spaces, my parts would show, but that it wouldn't be a big deal. She
waved her hand when she said that. I didn't get my hair done right
away. Instead, I took the consultant training class. Once I saw what
the hair looked like after the initial locking session, I told myself
that I would be sure to describe the look much better than saying,
"no big deal." To many women, it is a big deal. I've noticed that with
women who get sisterlocks after having worn braids, it's not as big a
deal, but for others, the parts showing is a big issue. I've had
women tell me that they planned to wear scarves and wigs during the
initial phase. So for me, I choose to describe the look as a worse case
scenario, so they won't be shocked when they see their hair. It
works. Most of the time, they've created such an image in their mind
about a plucked chicken, that they are pleasantly surprised when they
look into the mirror. I just did an initial locking session yesterday
and the lady was so happy, she was ready to go out and wear her hair.
Shesaid that it didn't look anywhere near as bad as she thought. I'll
post a picture in the files section. I'd also like to say that I show
my clients plenty of photos of women who just had their hair locked by
me. This way, they don't have to just rely on an image of a plucked
chicken, they can see for themselves how others hair have looked.
Having said all that, I want to again say that I admire you for not
wanting to use words that aren't part of the Sisterlocks terminology
and I will choose a better word to use that gets the point across
without making light of something that is a big deal to others. Any
ideas on a word or phrase that would work?
-Kim

Re: [LockItUp] Negative Term

2008-10-18 20:48:44

So true, Kim. For women who have worn twists and coils it's not a big deal
either. They're used to having scalp showing.
I've heard some say this too. I had a lot of scalp showing, but it never
occurred to me to cover it up. I knew ahead of time that this would be the
case, and it simply didn't bother me. I had never worn twists or
anything... just my perm. But still it didn't bother me because I knew it
was a phase... part of the process... and that it would go away soon. I
wore my new Sisterlocks -- exposed scalp and all -- proudly and happily. I
was so committed to the process going in that the exposed scalp didn't
phase me one bit.
But I do understand how and why it makes some people hesitate.
This is a great idea, Kim! I will also try to be more considerate when
discussing this too.
Let's all think on that. Actually it really doesn't resemble a plucked
chicken at all. How about "the exposed scalp look"?
Anybody else have suggestions?

Re: New to list--thinking of locking up...

2008-10-18 05:05:26

Lori,
You mentioned that you love when your new growth came in and your hair
thickend up. This makes me think that your hais is not too fine and
that the relaxer increases the fineness (if that's a word). Anyhow, by
not getting relaxers, your hair wouldn't be so fine. Therefore, you
would not end up with thin-looking locked hair. Also, the number and
size of locks can increase or subdue the hair volume. People with
plenty hair density should get larger locks to decrease volume. As for
your relaxed hair, you do NOT have to cut it. Simply wait until you
have at least one and a half inches of new growth to get your
Sisterlocks. Your relaxed hair will not be put into the locking
pattern, so in the beginning, you'll have to continue to manage your
hair in what ever way you currently do now. If you prefer to keep your
current length, then simply cut approximately a half inch of your hair
every couple months. Over time, as your locked hair get longer and more
pronounced, you may want to simply cut the remainder of your relaxed
ends and have a shorter length of hair. Many people begin to love the
look and feel of their locked hair and resent the relaxed hair that's
still there, so they cut it off. Also, women who transition from the
relaxer, oftentimes have bunching in their locks, which is another
reason why many prefer to cut their relaxer. It's up to you. As for a
consultant in NC, call the Home Office for a referral. The number is
(858) 560-5116. They will also answer the questions you asked better
than I just did. You may also want to check the unofficial list in the
files section of the LockItUp group for a consultant.

No one can really give you an answer to that up front. It depends on a lot
of things. But really... it's not that bad and it fills in very
quickly. Not worth worrying about at all.
You've asked some good questions here, and I'll be interested in seeing the

I would like to extend a thank you to Deb for opening
her beautiful and comfortable home to us today.
I had such a wonderful time placing faces with email
names. The added bonus was to have Deb in my head
showing us how to wear her many styles of hair
jewelry.
I can still feel the goosebumps and spiritual healing
I received from the drum playing.
Thank you all, I would like to host the next one ..So
Stay tuned.

New to list--thinking of locking up...

2008-10-16 05:48:34

New to the group; thinking of getting SLs. I've been researching a
lot about SLs online and have several questions.
I have very healthy, fine relaxed hair--no bald spots and not the
silky kind of fine, but very thin strands that give the impression my
hair is "thin." My hair falls about an inch or two past my shoulders;
my natural stuff is not very coarse. Because it's fine, it can be
hard to style and I've long envied the fuller-hair look; I love it
when my new growth comes in and my hair thickens up!
Anyhoo, I'm sick of the fine, relaxed thing and I think I'd like to
go natural. With my hair type, how bad might the plucked-chicken
thing be? Do locks work well to create a fuller look on people with
thinner hair, or do you just end up with thin-looking locked hair?
And because my hair is long, do I have to cut any of the relaxer of
initially to get the locks? I know with SLs you can have processed
hair at the onset.
I'm 29, but I look 16, don't usually wear makeup or jewelry and so
wouldn't pull off the TWA or short lock look well--too many people
might think I'm a boy. Any advice for making this transition--and any
honest truths about the cons and what to realistically expect--would
be a great help!
Thanks all,
Lori
(PS: Can anyone recommend a consultant in the Charlotte, NC area?)

Hey Cecily,
Congratulations on finding a consultant. That's wonderful. And I'm
glad you get to save money. So why didn't the home office give you
this information before?
I don't understand why your consultant prefers to put in sisterlocks
on all natural hair? That's part of the appeal or attraction of
sisterlocks for me is that I can begin locking hair without cutting
out the relaxer. What is her reason for not doing it with relaxed
hair? Especially since you seem to only have a little of relaxed
ends on your hair? I'm just curious about this? But if you let your
hair grow for 6 months, your hair will be longer, so it should look
pretty nice with about 5-6 inch length all around.

Found a Sisterlocks Consultant in Vancouver!

2008-10-10 17:52:42

Yippee!
I went today to get my hair put into two strand twists. The last time I had
my hair cut (back in June) the stylist left some relaxed hair behind, so the
twists wouldn't hold. I'm going to give it another month or so before I seek
out twists.
The GREAT news is I found a Sisterlocks consultant in Vancouver! The sister
who was going to twist my hair won an award for the world's best braider at
a hair show in Atlanta in 2000 - and she received her certification in
Atlanta as well. I can't tell you how happy this makes me - I can pay in
Canadian dollars AND I won't have to spend extra money by going to Seattle!

I read somewhere that the ball form on the end because
of the way locked hair sheds. It shed down the lock
and then forms that ball on the end. If your hair is
mature or locked above the ball it should be okay to
remove it. If your hair is not locked above the ball
leave it there.

Missy:
You are so right about the difference between spirituality and
religion. I was so busy "lecturing" that I forgot my own point!
Hair has a spiritual significance and religion often dictates what
one does with it. When I was growing up in a Pentecostal church,
there were rules about hair and heads...don't cut it, wear hats or
some other covering in church, etc. I don't attend that church
anymore, so I don't know what the rules are now...but on the other
hand, when I cut off my hair 3 years ago, someone at church expressed
surprise because I was a liturgical dancer and she thought that
dancers were supposed to wear their hair long.
I know that a lot of people are spiritual but not religious but I
find that I do best when I have a balance of both.

Re: [LockItUp] locking process/fuzziness

Well Samantha, about the frizzies/fuzzy...my sisterlocks are over a year old
and I still have frizzies. After about 6 months you can have them groomed
and that will help a lot for awhile.
I spoke to my locktician about the little balls forming on my clients test
locks, she assured me that the hair was not locking after such a short
amount of time( a week at the most) and she could just remove the little
balls but I don't know if that is the case after 3 months time. Have you
checked with your consultant?

SPIRITUALITY VS RELIGION

2008-10-09 17:52:13

Oh gee, I am lecturing1 Anyway, I had a Rasta roommate with waist-
length free form locs (just-stop-combing-your-hair-locs)and I used to
be somewhat impatient with her "spiritualization" of her locs. Oh
presumption! Now with my SLs, I often find myself thanking God
fervently for them...you can't tell me that Dr. Cornwall wasn't
divinely inspired to create them!
=====================================
Stephanie, I believe religion and spirituality are 2 different things. Religion
is principals and beliefs, Spirituality is sensitivity or attachment to
religious values. I understand what you are saying and to me that is spiritual
not religion. Thanks for your input and its ok to lecture to me anyway...I love
chatting and reading.

2008-10-09 14:17:32

Hi,
I have had my SL's for 8 months now, it will be 9 months 9/3/01. I
still have some fuzziness at times, matter of fact I have a little
fuzzieness today. I notice it depends on what style I where if I am
getting the fuzzies or not. I am wearing the braid out freestyle this
week & my hair is a little fuzzy. When I curl it with the curling
iron or wet set it with some SL's moisture treatment I don't seem to
get the fuzzies.
As far as the balls go, I also read somewhere you were not suppose to
pull the balls off, I had a few at 1st but as time went on they either
went away on their own or I pulled them off too. I guess you have to
do what's best for your hair.
Try a little mousse when setting it or the SL's moisture treatment it
works very well. Good Luck
Pam

An idea for advertising your business.

2008-10-08 18:20:58

To all Sisterlocks⢠business owners,
I have an idea for advertising your business by making folks aware of
Sisterlocksā¢. A few years ago, my husband and I were involved with the local
cable access channel in our area called Community Access. They allowed any
subject matter to be taped as long as it was within broadcast restrictions.
In our area, a lot of the arts & crafts, how-to-?, and local happenings were
taped and broadcast in a specific time frame a few times a week. They did not
allow direct advertising of a specific business (never hurts to ask, though)
but, it is a way to get the Sisterlocks⢠name and idea in your local area. By
doing so, hopefully, to make Sisterlocks⢠a household word. I get tired of
people asking me if I have dreads!
If you can get the name Sisterlocks⢠in peoples' mouths, then undoubtedly,
SOME of them will come seeking you out if you are easy to find (phone book,
flyers, church bulletin boards, local businesses you patronize, etc.) Post
the URL for LockItUp@... along with your info so you will, hopefully,
get an informed consumer.
The only requirement back then was to take a few courses, which were on the
job training, on how to 1. plan and market a program, 2. set up & operate
lighting and camera equipment, 3. set up the stage, 4. operationg editing &
CG equipment 5. final editing and copying of the final product before 6.
selecting a time slot for broadcasting.
My husband and I came away with newfound skills and a different kind of
respect for any type of professionally taped or filmed production - be it a
commercial, a short film or a feature length movie.
The way to find out is to check with your local cable company to see if this
option/program is available in your area. Matter of fact, I'm going to call
ours in the morning to see if it is still active where we live. You'd be
surprised to find out who watches the local access channels!
I like the ideas in recent posts of discounts for initial clients. Having
gone through the intial fees of getting Sisterlockedā¢, I find the most
appealing thing to me right now is a flat fee for retightenings and a
consultant close to home.
I don't want to sound like I'm slamming and don't want to get slammed either
but, you may find that for many of your customers, getting over the financial
shock of the initial locking session is well overshadowed by the subsequent
frequency of retightenings and the fees associated with them.
Just my twenty five cents worth.

locking process/fuzziness

2008-10-08 17:39:01

HI, Everyone.
I have a question about the locking process. I got my sisterlocks
about 3 months ago and loved the look of them right away. The problem
that I am encountering now, however, is that they are looking really
fuzzy and some of them are forming balls at the end. When I asked my
consultant about this, she said not to worry and to pull them off when
I see them. I'm confused because I read somewhere that I should leave
them alone because they are part of the process of getting to a
"mature" lock. Will pulling them off hinder the locking process?
How long does this stage last, if it is just a stage. What do I do
about the fuzziness? I'm hoping it will eventually go away because it
is really frustrating and is not looking the way I would like it to.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, ladies.

I live in a large town and my business is starting slowly also. I am
surrounded by permed heads in my family, even though we are not
supposed to use family. It is a shame because I think that some of
people in my family would just love Sisterlocks but I think that they
are afraid of making such a big change.
I am glad that I have the knowledge because the prices of the class
is going to increase and also I believe that Sisterlocks will be very
popular one day and more people will be seeking consultants.
I know a guy that owns a salon and he thinks that it is just a
publicity problem. He is going to help me advertise. I usually go
freestyle also but I am starting to curl my hair more often because I
think a lot of women will like to see locks in a professional or
corporate kind of style. I will be happy when I can put them in a
french roll.
I am offering a discount for my clients that will start my portfolio
also.

Hi Nicky,
I am experiencing the same dilemma. Small town-Michigan. :-) I have a
couple of clients over 200 miles away who I plan on using to become
certified. I am offering a discount to my first clients. I think I will
advertise in the weekly advertiser here and also I've been mailing and
handing out business cards and the Sisterlocks Brochures.
Although I like the freestyle look, I get more compliments when I have a few
curls, so, I've started to set it more often. I guess I'll have to be my
own advertisement. (smile)
I find it difficult to win my family members over because they saw the FIRST
finished product which was not very pretty, an extreme "plucked chicken
look!" My sisters could never deal with that! :-)
Good luck to you. I too am interested in what others have to say on this
subject.

Shampooing Question and Opinion

2008-10-05 17:43:56

I shampoo every 3-4 days when it is warm and 5-7 days during
the colder months. Lately, I've been lathering once (instead
of the traditional 2 times) and rinsing and then rinsing once
more with the ACV rinse. (When I'm on the road -- I'll skip
the ACV rinse. Anyone perceive that there is a problem in the
making? Is that second lather that critical for those who
shampoo frequently?
Being able to wash my hair so often and attaining curled or
twist/braid out styles quickly that last and last is really
great! During my perm/weave years, my hair never looked this
good with so little effort!
A friend was surprised when she heard that I washed my
hair so often. She said that my hair looked clean but she
didn't know that loc wearers washed them so often. She would
go for several weeks when wearing a perm (as if that is
the standard). She then warned me not to look too closely
at her hair (with braid extensions) because she usually
goes months without washing her hair! (Yucky!)
It is funny how many people don't realize the locked probably
wash their hair more often than others. I think the SL
wearers are shifting paradigms everywhere.

2008-10-05 01:25:34

Hello again,
I just wanted to say a very sincere "THANK YOU" to all who replied
and gave me such wonderful words of encouragement.
I kinda figured it "shouldn't" matter, but was just concerned how
much it "would" matter if I were a SL Consultant who did not have
SLs. Yes, it was advised to me once before that it would be a great
thing to have all forms of locking under my belt. I thought of just
traditional locks, but as I said for MANY women, they wouldn't be an
option but due to the size of SL's they would more likely consider
them.
So...I've decided to take the class! (YEA!!!) When? When I get some
money. I don't think it should take too long. But I'll let you all
know once I do.
Thanks again for your replies and your support!

I received my certification in the mail. I'm really excited.
Arlanda,
Congratulations on receiving your certification!! I'm unable to update

Update Consultant list

2008-10-04 00:16:07

Hi Sandy or Kim
I need to change my address on the consultant list. I moved from
Bellevue Nebraska to Romeoville Illinois last week. Romeoville is
just outside Chicago. Two days after I moved I received my
certification in the mail. I'm really excited. Moving into to a new
home and being certified at the same time. God is good.
Address: Arlanda Darkwa

Romeoville Il 60446

P.S. I'm still serving the Nebraska area. I will be travelling back
and forth.
Thanks, LOL

RE: Message

From: cmkree@... (Cherie)
"I am now into month 4 of my locking journey. I LOVE my locs just as
they are. They're not SL's, they were started with small braids. I
do things to my locs that SL wearers do not do. I could NEVER see
myself starting this all over again (meaning taking these down to get
SLs). But I wonder, what kind of message would that send to my
clients if I am promoting and doing SL's on their heads but I,
myself, have traditional locs. Won't they wonder why "I" don't have
SL's? Isn't one of the questions that people ask a potential
consultant "Do you have SL's?"? "
As long as my consultant had natural hair only I would not mine is she does
not have SL. Once you have pictures or allow your clients to see clients you
have SL'd they can make a choice btw traditional locks and SL.
Take the training course.

Re: [LockItUp] What kind of message would this send?

2008-10-03 13:09:58

Cherie,
Let me just day this. My Sisterlocks Consultant does not have Sisterlocks.
She is Pam, Sheila Everette's sister. It is my understanding that she did
at one time have them but cut them off.
When I took the training class there was a lady, a professional braider, who
had beautiful locks which were started with braids. She told us that she
went home and tightened her locks using the sisterlocks method and was quite
pleased with the results.
If a person wanted traditional locks would you turn them down or take
advantage of the fact that you can do it all... I say, open up your world
for opportunity!
I feel limited in that I am only familiar with the Sisterlocks method.
Hope this made sense.

Re: What kind of message would this send?

Cherie I personally would not care as long as my Consultant was
Sister Lock Certified. My consultant (a licensed cosmetologist) is
a Natural Hair Care Specialist and often wears afros or 2 strand
twists.

What kind of message would this send?

2008-10-02 21:47:52

Hello ladies,
I don't post much anymore because, well, to be honest I feel sort of
out of place. I mean, I know that it's open to anyone (SL's or not)
but sometimes I just don't have anything to contribute.
Well, I have a question to pose. I have spoken with Sigrid and Deb
about becoming a SL consultant. Part of me really wants to because I
know of MANY women (former clients when from my days as a "creamy
crack dealer", family members, friends...) who would be PERFECT
candidates for SLs. See, I realize that while traditional locs are
beautiful, there are a lot of women for whom they would never be an
option. They would most likely be attracted to SL's due to the
ability to have almost the same styling versitility as they do with
their relaxers; YET have natural, healthy hair that GROWS.
So, that's why I say they would be perfect candidates for SLs.
Okay, here's my dilemna:
I am now into month 4 of my locking journey.
I'm still contemplating taking the course since I AM right here in
Detroit with Sheila of Everette's. In about a year or two, I won't
be here in this city. I'm still trying to decide if I want to take
this course or not.
So, what do you ladies think? Would YOU allow a consultant who
DIDN'T have SL's do your hair? Would it pose a question mark in your
mind why HER (or his) locs weren't SL's?
I appreciate ANY feedback I get on this because that is something
that concerns me greatly.
Thanks!
Cherie

New Sisterlocks Consultant in Training

2008-10-02 10:28:17

Sandy,
It was so nice to meet you and the little ones last Sunday. Email
me your address and I will send you copies of the pictures with your
artwork, LOL.
The class at Everett's was awesome! There were only six in the class
and nobody left with an unanswered question. After going through
that training I am a new found respect for Dr. Cornwell.
Unbelievable is all I can say.
I got back to Atlanta Thursday, had my first consultation today
(Saturday) and scheduled first locking session for 9/7. We are on
our way to Sisterlock some more Sisters!!!

Denia and Missy's Hair

2008-10-02 03:44:01

Kimberly,
You did do a fantastic job on Denia's hair. She's a beautiful little
girl with locks that are beautiful and you can see how much she loves
them!
Missy,
Love the foil set on you, the waviness looks very natural. I tried
it once and found that it is the only set that will last in very
humid weather.
Are you in the White Plains, NY area? I though I saw you mention a
salon in White Plains..I grew up on Hartsdale/Greenburgh.
The hair is looking good ladies!

Can't wait to see your (and hour husband's) pictures when you get
locked.

foil strips / question

2008-10-01 12:37:15

I have to redo this 2nd picture it was too big, and I
couldn't remember Sandys instructions. I don't get a
compress jpg question so I am going to wing it in
Adobe Photo Deluxe. I have a trim and size button. I
am going to select wallet size maybe that will help.
For those of you with perm'd ends, have you noticed
the ends are curling into the loc? I have quite a few
that have curled up and loc'd itself around the length
of the loc. I like that it's doing that it eliminates
the perm'd ends, but here's my dilemna, it also causes
a fatness or thickness to my SL I don't like, its not
uniform with the others, so I have been pulling them
down is that a no no in your opinion?

We were told in class to put a little oil on your fingers and press
and pull at the end of the lock. I have found that does not work for
me so maybe the instructor meant before the locks get puffy. She
also said that eventually that puffy part would need to be cut. I
have a few like that I am going to cut when my hair gets longer.

Re: Denia's locks!!!

We're already planning how to fix her hair for picture day. Don't
even ask to see my 4th grade picture...LOL. And 5th grade...SCARY!!!
I finally managed to hide the 5th grade pic. My mom kept trying to
put it up on a wall. The glasses and braces didn't help!
