Nappy Hair Days - how to find the people

2007-07-30 20:40:00

Good suggestions

Re: [LockItUp] That Size Thing . . . again

2007-07-30 11:52:24

I haven't. I'm looking at a pencil now, and I don't think I've ever seen
any Sisterlocks or Brotherlocks that big.
I've heard of people switching from Sisterlocks to traditional locks by
combining locks together to make them bigger. I haven't heard of
palmrolling the new growth to get a desired size. Your size is chosen
*before* you get your Sisterlocks so that you end up with locks the size
you want. If you want large locks, tell your consultant this beforehand.

That Size Thing . . . again

2007-07-30 07:14:00

Was just over at the files checking out all the photos.
Simple question(s):
Has anyone seen a Sisterlock the size of a pencil or thereabouts?
Has anyone ever heard of starting out with Sisterlocks, palmrolling
new growth [somewhere downt he line] to achieve desired loc size.

Please tell me their Sisterlocks!!! Or are they traditional locks?
I love 'em.

If you have any suggestions please feel free to pass them along. I'm
just wondering how to find the people!
If I were to take on such a task one thing I would do is check out
all the natural, locked, dreaded, etc. hair clubs/groups that I could
find. I would also check out guestbooks at websites of folks with
natty and natural hair.
It's a start, a thought, to contact the masses.

Re: [LockItUp] Another Hurdle

2007-07-28 14:19:28

Heh heh heh! I knew you would eventually. I've always let mine just air
dry without the rollers -- unless I was going for a certain look... when I
wouldn't take down the braids after shampooing and I'd just roll them up
and let them dry like that for the crinkly look. Other than that, I would
always wash my hair early in the day and let it air dry. I love that look;
but because of the perm in my hair, I would have to use a curling iron on
the permed ends on the top and front. The back always curled up by
itself. I still don't understand that one. :-)
So when do we see the pictures!! :-)

Another Hurdle

2007-07-28 05:22:38

Hello All-
Just thought I'd mention that I went to work today for the first time without
setting my hair on rollers. I was going to wait until I got to Mexico in April
to experiment with this new look but after I washed my hair last night I was
just too tired to deal with the rollers. My SL's are almost 5 months old now
and I've never let them air dry. I've always rolled them right after I wash
them and let them dry while I slept. I have to admit they look more like locs
when I let them dry on their own. I was kind of impressed. The back is very
pretty. Had a Shirley Temple curl appearance. The ends look like they were
dipped in a reddish bronze color. The front was my big dilemma. Since the top
isn't locked the front just sort of hung down. I finally had to resort to
putting a few of the Caruso rollers in (I just got my set Sat). If I let the
top go it looked rather wild (not quite appropriate for the corporate setting I
work in). Anyway I got several compliments, some people asked what I had done
to my hair. others just stared. But, hey now it's out there! Tomorrow I think
I'll throw one of my scarves around the front and go for it! They probably don't
know what to make of me!

Thank you Sigrid and Missy for the compliments.
Yes I am very happy with my locks and I still go to the same

Today I shampooed for the first time without the bands and braiding.
I am so glad to be past that stage.
Usually the first shampoo after a retigtening I don't curl my hair
right away so I can see if my hair is longer. I stepped out of the
shower and grabbed my hair to squeeze out the water and I actually
had a ponytail. A small one but still a ponytail. Most of my adult
life I have worn my hair short so this is a new experience.

Re: [LockItUp] Decent web pages ala Pat's and Sandy's

2007-07-27 07:30:34

It's a Microsoft freebie. When you get a Microsoft operating system, it
usually comes with some freebies. This is one of them. They are good for
very little. You can view a photo with it, maybe manipulate it a little
bit (resizing and compressing probably), but I doubt that you can get into
any real graphics work with it. It's possible you can find some frames on
a graphics site somewhere and use them with your freee photo software, but
really don't know.
Naturally you can do more with good graphics software that you purchase,
rather than the stuff you get free with your operating system. What you
buy, or whether you *should* buy one really depends on what you intend to
use it for. It might not be worth it to put out money for graphics
software if you aren't going to be using it very much.
You can find PaintShopPro at Amazon.com, bn.com, and Jasc.com. Jasc is
the manufacturer, and it probably costs more from them. I'm guessing you
can also find PhotoShop at Amazon and bn, too.

little points that made the difference between cheesy and
professional looking, I think. I have access to a scanner, know how

border/frame that surrounds Pat's pics - very neat, I like the look.
Thanks for sharing Sandy.

Re: [LockItUp] Lock, Twist & Shout Gala - the 4-1-1

2007-07-26 03:13:16

It was great!!! There was *so* much nappy love in da house!!
The people who took the workshops said they *really* got a lot out of
them. The holistic health speakers were AWESOME. The hair & fashion show
had me drooling. I want those clothes!!! The vendors sold gobs of
stuff. People were actually buying the Better Braids hair products by the
*case*!! I went over to their table on Sunday to get some braid spray for
my daughter and it was sold out. :-( There was one vendor there who
designs afro-centric clothing. It's a husband/wife team. One does the
design, the other does the sewing, and then one of them (can't remember
which one) actually hand paints the outfit. ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! And if
you provide the shoes, they'll paint them to match your outfit. Oh lawdy
and I have a wedding to attend this summer!!
I got a chance to meet Nekhena Evans of New Bein Enterprises. She is a
doll! So nice!! She was great during the hair-locking forum... answering
questions and giving advice. And I'm told that her workshops were da
bomb!! I bought way too many of her hair ornaments, but what else is
new? :-) I thought my Sisterlocks were too thin to wear those cute spiral
beaded things... but Nekhena hooked me up and I'm now wearing TWO of them!!!
The entertainment was glorious. I'm in love with contemporary gospel music
anyway, and the dance groups were awesome. Let me tell ya we are some
TALENTED people!!!!!! The food was great, the entertainment was great, the
information was phenomenal, the networking opportunity was not to be missed!!
And I learned how to do head-wraps!!! Look out now!! There was a woman
there who did headwrapping demos each day. She brought lots of material so
we could all try it ourselves. I was astounded when I actually did a
damned fine lookin' wrap for myself -- without a mirror thankyouverymuch!!!
I gotta get me some material so I can start getting down with the
headwraps. I was looking good if I do say so myself!
All I can tell you is... next year when they do this, if it's at all
possible to attend, DO SO!!!

Ya know... I buy from tv all the time, and I recently ordered the
TurbieTwist towels that are advertised constantly. Those towels don't
leave fuzz in your hair. I had purchased something similar from QVC a few

Re: [LockItUp] Slippage + "redone"

2007-07-22 23:50:52

If your consultant charges by the hour, having lots of slippage could
effect the price cuz it would take her longer to do your hair.
I think Everette's charges a flat fee for retightening -- not by the
hour. I'll ask today while I'm at the lock conference and let you know for
sure.
-- Sandy

Slippage + "redone"

2007-07-22 20:24:43

Okay, it seems there are (could be) two situations going on:
1) slippage; and
2) having a loc re-done
One sistah mentioned time and money re. the maintenance of her hair.
So say, after 4 weeks (I'll just bet I won't be able to go longer)
there is some slippage, AND some that need to be redone because they
slipped all the way outta Dodge - it seems the pricing is affected.
Is this accurate?

Thanks Sigrid

Yeah, from what I gather, this would definitely be the thing to do!
Yep, yup, uh huh! I was pleased to find out it's affordable too.

It works! My scalp is not dry or itchy, like it was. I was using

relief at all. The Aloe Vera juice and Tea Tree oil combined has
truly proved to be a great remedy for me.

moisturizer, and Carol's Daughter Khoret Ahmen oil. I very seldom use any
of them. As little as I need any oil, it'll take me two years to use up
all of this stuff. LOL!
Try Dr. Bronner's soap, and dilute it by half. The conditioners that we
used to use are actually "detanglers" rather than conditioners. We don't
want detanglers. We want our hair to tangle. This is the kind of
conditioner she means for you to stay away from. But true conditioners --
like the herbal rinses -- aren't harmful. They make your hair healthy and
strong, but they don't detangle it.
Looking forward to the pictures!

No, guess I'm just a little burned from all the "advice" i've gotten

Tell me, please the products Everette's has for my S.L.'s and the
prices so I'll know ballpark how much to bring. I do not want to get
there and only have enough for the locs with nothing left for
product. What do they sell?
I already have a castile soap, and some Dr. Bronner's shampoo, or and
J. R. Liggett, will I still need to purchase their shampoo? Tell me
about their maintenance products.
Thanks, Sandy and the rest of our members.

Sisterlock Info

I just got my sisterlock information in the mail. I
was so happy while I was opening the package. Much to
my dismay they did not include a listing of
consultants in my area or in a neighboring state.

6 month Sisterlocks

2007-07-18 01:26:32

Oh Happy Day!
My Sisterlocks are 6 months old now! I got them retightened last
night. My session took only 3 hours. I was happy because it had been
9 weeks since my last retightening. I try not to go over 8 weeks but
I waited a little too long to call for my appointment. My consultant
said that my hair was in really good shape though. She kept saying
how beautiful it is. I don't know if she was admiring her work,my
upkeep or both. So, we both are very pleased.
Anyway the good part is no more braiding and banding and no more
starter shampoo. She still says no oils or conditioner. I can only
use shampoo without conditioner. She even said that I could color
with a semi permanent color. I am still afraid to try that though.
Maybe in a couple of months.
I finally have some pictures. Some are from a digital and some are
from a 35 milimeter. Some of them did not come out so great but I
will probably post them anyway next week.
Have a great weekend,
Carol

Re: [LockItUp] Okay, I'm getting pumped now, countdown to S.L. = 7 days + Slippage.

2007-07-17 15:54:47

You're right, Aminah. You won't be putting any gunk in your hair. You can
buy the SL products at Everette's. I bought the SL moisture treatment the
day I got my locks done, and used it after each shampoo. I only used a
little bit, though.
If you maintain your hair correctly -- following all the instructions -- it
should keep slippage to a minimum. The only slippage I had was from a
couple of locks at the nape of my neck. None of the others ever came loose
at all.
And remember... if they don't give you instructions (I doubt that they'll
forget, but anything's possible), ask! Ask all the questions you need to
be comfortable and satisfied that you know how to take care of your
Sisterlocks when you go home.
When are you getting your Sisterlocks?
There's not even a question about whether or not you can get
Sisterlocks. Of course you can! That's one thing that you *definitely*
don't need to be fretting over.
Have you been told that some people can't get Sisterlocks? I'm sure no one
at Everette's told you that.
-- Sandy

Okay, I'm getting pumped now, countdown to S.L. = 7 days + Slippage.

2007-07-17 15:14:42

There's even a java Sisterlocks countdown icon at my webpage!!
Okay, question regarding slippage - remember a couple weeks ago when
I went to the counterfeit Sisterlocks putter inner, and she did one
on my head? Well, it looked like a tiny, nasty rope, I thought I
would have to cut it out, did not see any way that thing could have
been taken out. Well lo and behold after I had washed my hair a
couple of times and resumed putting moisturizing gel in it, voila!!!
It was gone. That's when it dawned on me about "slippage" that I had
been reading about.
Someone please give me the 4-1-1 about slippage. Assuming the woman
I went to was even close to doing a Sisterloc, the one she did
certainly came undone. One thing I'm assuming is that Sheila and my
student will give me instructions on do's and dont's so I either
won't experience slippage or it will be minimized. Also, I have been
using gel in my hair or moisture, I'm sure when I get the S.L. that
will be a no-no. Maybe just spritz water (I've read you guys
mentioning that).
Eagerly I await response. (This is soo exciting- I do hope they can
give me S.L.)!
Hotep.

Re: Retightening Class

2007-07-17 09:30:35

Sandy, what's your plan?

Re: [LockItUp] Learning to re-tighten - the cost??

2007-07-17 00:35:37

Retightening classes are $75.
There are 2 requirements: 1) You must have had your Sisterlocks for at
least six months, and 2) your consultant says your locks are mature enough
to take the class.
-- Sandy

RE: [LockItUp] Retightening Class

2007-07-16 14:33:18

If anyone can do it Sandy, you can. It certainly is a big proposition, but
I'm sure that with time it will get easier and easier. Just think of the
freedom though, you will never be dependent on anyone else to keep you hair
looking beautiful. Once I adjust to the newness of just having SLs I plan
on following your example. Best of luck.
Sue

Learning to re-tighten - the cost??

2007-07-16 11:49:55

What is the cost of this class?

Retightening Class

2007-07-16 09:07:35

I'm going to the retightening class on the 24th. I'm getting excited at
the prospect of maintaining my own hair. Retightening 419 locks is a big
proposition -- even if only done a little at a time. I have a plan that I
intend to follow, but thinking is and doing it are two different things.
I hope I can do it.
-- Sandy

Re: [LockItUp] Slippage

2007-07-16 02:28:42

Just ask questions while you're there... any question that comes to mind.
As for slippage, I had a couple of locks at the nape of my neck that came
loose a couple of times. Pam would simply redo it when I got my
retightenings. Eventually they stayed locked.
LOL!! And you are so right. You will be awesome!
-- Sandy

My Sisterlocks doing good...

2007-07-15 14:56:59

Hello, everyone... I had my first re-tightening on Saturday. Karen,
my consultant, said I had maintained my SL's very well (yeaaaaa!) and
had no slippage except for two locks at the nape where my hair is
almost straight. But Karen just put those two back in and now they
are secure. She made me feel so good telling me that I have
maintained my locks in proper order, especially because it took me
over one hour to braid and band my hair before shampooing it the
night before! Whew... I must be a clutz or something because I kept
having to take a bundle down and include one or two SL's that I
missed. But, spraying the shampoo on my scalp and the bundles from a
spray bottle worked well for me and I did not use too much. And,
after I separated each little lock, I sprayed my scalp with my
water/tea tree oil mixture.
BTW, I counted my locks as I separated them and I have about 390 SL's
on my head. I have a small head, so for me that's a lot of little
SL's. And, that probably accounts for the fact that it took Karen
only 90 minutes to re-tightening my SL's. So, she told me I could go
longer than four weeks since I'm not experiencing slippage or
problems. I scheduled my next re-tightening for seven weeks away!
Good deal!
But, sorry to say that Karen hasn't developed the pics she took of my
newbie SL's yet, so I'll have to wait until the end of April to get a
set. I'm going to try to shop for a digital camera next weekend, so
maybe I can post pics sooner. But, I love my locks and they are
slowly thickening up... just like y'all said they would! :-)

Ooooh weeee, so exciting. But wait, just went to the site via link
below, do we know what is held which day? I'm feelin' need to be
in Detroit this weekend, my sister. Seeing as I WILL be there the
weekend after that, I may only be able to make it Saturday (can't
afford Hotel/transpo. both weekends). What activity is on
Saturday?
I'm prepared to take Greyhound as it's only $40.00 round trip.
Sandy, I need a favor - please find out for the the price of a cab:
1) From Greyhound station - 8 mile road where Everette's is, and;
2) From Greyhound station to where the "Twist and Shout Gala" will
be held.
I'm counting the cost to see if I can hit both events. Thanks in
advance Sandy.
I am assuming the dance workshop means the people get to
participate???? Aaaww maaan, I wanna go, I wanna go!!

hair is locking already and I think I look so cute :-) I got lots of

2007-07-15 02:03:17

Sue, don't feel like you're alone. I *still* gaze at my hair in the mirror
each day as it continues to change.
I think my talking about it continuously (was I excited!) at work and
bringing Joanne's book to work with me for a month or so before I got my
Sisterlocks really helped folks to understand what I was doing, and the
"plucked chicken" look really didn't raise any eyebrows at work. I never
covered my head. As a matter of fact, it never occurred to me to do that.

SL's one week old today!

2007-07-14 10:12:49

Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd update you all on the state of my week old SLs. They are a
week old today and my love affair with my hair just keeps getting better and
better. I used to read about how other people felt when they got their
locks and I just couldn't wait until I could experience it myself. I now
realize that nothing could have prepared me for how amazing this journey is.
I spend so much time each day just looking at and touching my locks and
marvelling at how amazing they are. They look different each day, and after
just a week they look a little thicker. The dryness I was worried about
last week has disappeared. I have been spritzing my hair with water and
essential oil daily, and its made big difference. Sandy I remember what you
said about the locks loving water, so this weekend I got my hair wet. I
just stood in the shower and let the water run over my head. It felt SO
wonderful and the locks looked even better wet than they do dry. I got out
of the shower and just let my hair air dry. WOW!!!! I haven't curled my
hair or put a head band or scarf on. I want it to be free to do whatever it
wants. Luckily I work in an organization where I can do that. The decision
to get Sisterlocks is best decision I ever made in my life! Hooray for
SisterLocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get the initial locking session done by Everette's, and then
you could maintain the Sisterlocks yourself... and even make a little
money on the side.
$$$, did somebody say make a little $$, mmmmm!!
Sure is!
Not to mention, don't know of ANY Certified S.L. Consultants in the
Cleveland area. MMmmmmm, a sistah's mind humming!

Re: [LockItUp] Conference

2007-07-11 09:04:21

I can answer that one, as I'm there at least 2 or 3 times a month. As I
mentioned earlier, the students are *always* overseen by Pam, a Certified
Consulltant, and Sheila the owner, a Certified Trainer.
Pam maintains my hair, but there have been times when I've been asked if
it's OK to let the students help. They've always done a good job, and two
sets of hands make the job go faster. :-) Take a look at the pictures on
my website. The first pictures were taking during my initial locking
session. There were times when 3 people were working on me at one time --
Sheila, Pam, and one of the students.
Everette's is a natural hair care school. The students are learning all
facets of natural hair care. Sisterlocks training is one of the programs
offered there.
I can't wait til the conference. I'm looking forward to meeting Ms.
Cornwell and telling her what a wonderful difference Sisterlocks has made
for me. Lately I've been getting compliments almost on a daily basis, and
I love it!

Re: [LockItUp] Long Distance Locs

2007-07-11 09:03:34

Here's a suggestion. Go to Detroit, get your Sisterlocks, and take the
Sisterlocks consultants class. It's a lot of money, but I don't know your
financial situation. It might even be worth taking the time to save up for
it. Get the initial locking session done by Everette's, and then you could
maintain the Sisterlocks yourself... and even make a little money on the side.
Just a thought.

Long Distance Locs

2007-07-10 18:45:21

Hey Sandy,
Those are some of the questions I have been batting
around in my head already. I knew that I wanted to
attend the conference and i figured that since I had
made the trip that I would get my hair done there.
After much thought I realize that it would be a bit
unrealistic for me to get my hair done in Detroit.
The reality of me living in a rural area has sunk in
and that is why I am considering traditional
cultivated locs now... The expense of traveling to
another state, lodging, meals, and the expense of the
Sisterlocks may be a bit much for me. So I am not
sure what I will do.

Re: [LockItUp] Digest Number 267

Sue,
I had problems with dryness and itchiness with my new SL's. Much of my
problem was the Starter Shampoo which did not agree with me (but does with
many I hear). I struggled with it's use for about 4 months because it does
assist with the locking process and I was also afraid to use anything else
for fear of damaging my SL's. Afterwards, my consultant had to recommend
another product. I was unable to use the SL moisturizer until after the
4-5th month because my hair has a tendency to frizz. I am sure climate has a
lot to do with whether a consultant recommends the moisturizer also. Once
your SL's begin to mature things will get better and you will have more
options.
Forgot to tell you. When I could not use other things, I was able to use
Aloe Vera gel on my scalp and a little on my hair to revive it. Not a cure
all, but it helped.
Anya

Starting Traditional Locks

2007-07-08 02:52:44

We were talking about this a week or so ago and I said I'd ask Sheila (my
Sisterlocks consultant who is also a natural hair care expert) what she
uses to start locks. She said she uses nothing. No creams, waxes,
butters, or anything to start the locks. She simply starts with a clean,
well-moisturized head of hair, and she twists, coils, or palm rolls
(depending on hair type and customer preference) to start the locks with no
goopy stuff whatsoever.
After she said this, it reminded me of something I read on the Carol's
Daughter web site. I went back and copied it here for anyone who is
interested. This info is shown next to their Loc Butter.
Quoted directly from CarolsDaughter.com:
"Alake Angaza, master braider and loctician and owner of Alake Salon
Gallery in Brooklyn [718-399-0030], has advised me to inform my customers
that it is not the pomade or gel that is placed on the hair that helps it
to lock. It is the motion of the palm roll or twist in conjunction with
clean, properly moisturized hair that aids in the locking process."
So, going by this info, the various lock butters and locking aids that we
see should be used for moisturizing the hair but not as a glue to hold the
hair together while it locks.

Not small beads, it looks like textured lumps (or big lumps of white mold).
That's the best I can describe it. The reason I wonder is because both products
came from CD and I wouldn't think one would be a smooth yellow creme and the
other lumpy white. I meant to call them today to check but I ran out of time.

Re: New Locks feel dry

essential oil. Can you only start doing that after your locks have
matured?
Hi, Sue... I'm a new Sisterlocked Sistah also. I spritz my new locks
with water/tea tree oil mixture every day... and I started doing that
maybe the second day I had my locks. This mixture keeps my scalp
from feeling itchy and keeps my locks soft. My natural, nappy hair
was the soft/fuzzy type, so maybe that is another reason why my locks
do not feel dry. But, don't be afraid to spritz them. My certified
consultant told me my locks would like to be spritzed with water and
essential oil especially since I won't be shampooing my hair except
for the night before my re-tightenings (only because my hair/scalp is
accustomed to being shampooed only every couple of months.)
I hope this helps...

Smart girl! Don't worry about the students. They're good. Plus Sheila
(Certified Sisterlocks Trainer) and her sister Pam (Certified Sisterlocks
Consultant) are both their looking over their shoulders every minute.
You'll love it!
Aminah, the woman you went to today... was she the one you told us about

J.O.D. Joke of the Day!

2007-07-05 10:40:26

Weeellllllll, remember I had a loc appointment today???
You know I was anxious all day, couldn't way for work day to end - HA
(she says loudly).
I'm gon do yaw'll all a favor and cut to the chase.
She couldn't do it, said my hair was just "doing what IT wanted to
do". [She and another "girl" tried several times to do something to
my head, 'course I couldn't see, I was trying to sit there, keep head
still like a good client. She said, I have several grades of hair on
my head, she said she could loc the top, but I would need to wait for
the back to loc. She then offered to put extensions in my hair
(YARN!!!!????), after all, "It's how she started her locks. They'll
look just like locs" The YARN that is.
I used the sense God gave me, and made like a banana and split.
Ran home, called Everettes. I'm sending in $50. deposit tomorrow and
request an appointment with a student (beginning at $250.00) - you
all know the rest better than me, 'cause ya been there.
Pray for me, I know it'll be allllright.
Im-hotep,
'Minah

Re: [LockItUp] New Locks feel dry

2007-07-04 04:25:07

She's right, but it usually takes a few weeks before our scalp "finds
itself" and calms down to a natural state. We've been torturing our scalp
and hair follicles for so long that it takes them awhile to regroup.
My consultant told me that we can use the Sisterlocks Moisture Treatment on
new locks. It's a heavenly-smelling cream. It's a *very* light
moisturizer. Not greasy at all. I would apply it *very* sparingly to my
scalp only, not on my hair. It eventually worked its way into the hair....
just enough to ease the dry feeling. I would also apply it -- again *very*
sparingly -- midway between shampoos as my hair started to feel dry.
Eventually I found that I needed very little -- if any -- moisturizer at
all. Your scalp will mellow and and start to produce the right amount of
moisture for your hair and scalp.
Ask your consultant about the Sisterlocks moisturizer. Sisterlocks also
has a spray moisturizer which I also love. I'm not positive whether we can
use that one on new locks, though... but the cream worked very well for me
when my locks were new.

New Locks feel dry

2007-07-03 23:10:46

Hey everyone,
Today is day 3 of having sisterlocks......and yes I'm as excited today as I
was the first day. I'm still in the "disbelief" stage of the journey. I
look in the mirror every morning and I'm amazed by the fact that I actually
have all these locks on my head. I do have one question for you guys. I'm a
little worried because my hair feels very dry to me. It doesn't seem to
have the sheen to it of some of the new locks that I've seen in pictures.
I called my consultant and she tells me not to worry, that this is the
natural texture of my hair. I realize that she is probably right. She told
me that black women are so used to putting stuff in our hair that most of us
have never actually felt what the natural texture of our hair is. Could
someone ease my concern and tell me whether or not they experienced what
felt like dry hair when they first got their locks. I know some of you
spritz your hair with water mixed with a little essential oil. Can you only
start doing that after your locks have matured?

Re: Shea Butter (RAW or Creme)

Sorry Sista
Shea butter comes in both white and yellow. Don't let that Chicago
brother fool ya. LOL. In the states it's also very overpriced also.
In Ghana $20.00 can buy you a whole vat of the stuff.

Shea Butter (RAW or Creme)

2007-07-03 10:30:39

************
My Shea butter is always white, I get it from this
brother in Chicago. He claims it is in its purest
form. It cost me almost $20.00.
Devon is it small beads or looks like raw cotton of
Shea or creamy...if its chunky its just like mine and
I've used the creme b4 and like the texture better.

Re: [LockItUp] Ok dumb question

Here's the recipe for the rinse. The sage oil stops your hair from smelling
like vinegar. The rinse is good for dry, itchy scalp.
3 ounces of apple cider vinegar
1 quart of distilled water
1 teaspoon of sage oil
Use weekly after shampoo as a final rinse
(do not wash/rinse out)

Thanks for the tip Carol, I thought about it later & realized that I
should've gone when she was doing a retightening, duh! But I guess neither of
us thought about it, I am planning to go back to her before my session though
& schedule it when I could see a retightening.

Ok dumb question

Listening to you all this is the first time I'm hearing about these vinegar
rinses. They make a lot of sense, by my question is does your hair then smell
of vinegar? and if so, how do you get the smell out? or does it just go away?

Was I supposed to put it in the refrigerator (it didn't give any
instrx)? I don't want to complain if I did something wrong. Can
someone help?
Devon, it doesn't need to be refrigerated. I've never seen it white,
only yellow. Call CD and ask.
